Terms of Service (until November 14, 2026 for existing accounts)

Last updated: October 2026

This is the previous version of our terms. It applies to accounts created before October 15, 2026 until November 14, 2026, except for a plan or trial started from October 15, 2026, which the current Terms of Service cover.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the CardAPI service, including the API, website, and developer portal (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Service Provided As-Is

The CardAPI Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.

Data Accuracy

Credit card data served through the CardAPI is sourced from issuer websites via automated extraction. While we make reasonable efforts to keep data current and accurate, we do not guarantee that any data point — including rewards rates, annual fees, benefits, or application criteria — is complete, accurate, or up to date.

Always verify critical information directly with the card issuer before making financial decisions. CardAPI is not a financial advisor and nothing in the Service constitutes financial advice.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service in any way that:

  • Involves scraping or bulk-downloading API responses to build a competing credit card database or data product
  • Exceeds the rate limits associated with your subscription tier
  • Involves sharing, reselling, or redistributing your API key to third parties
  • Attempts to circumvent authentication, rate limiting, or access controls
  • Violates any applicable law or regulation

Rate Limits

Each subscription tier carries specific rate limits (requests per day or per month). Limits are enforced automatically. Sustained or intentional violation of rate limits may result in temporary throttling or permanent account suspension.

Paid Plans, Trials and Cancellation

  • Paid plans (Starter, Pro and Enterprise) are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through our payment processor, Stripe. A plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel it.
  • Free trial. Starter starts with a 7-day free trial, once per customer. A payment card is required to start it. A paid plan that is switched to Starter does not get a trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, you are charged the Starter price you chose ($29 per month or $279 per year) when it ends, and on each renewal after that.
  • Changing plans. Changes to a paid plan, to another plan or between monthly and annual billing, are made only in the developer portal, signed in as the account owner. Manage billing is for cancelling, your card and invoices; it does not change plans. A change starts as soon as you confirm it, and what you pay depends on the change:
    • An upgrade that keeps your billing period (monthly to monthly, or annual to annual) is charged the prorated difference for the rest of the current period that day.
    • A downgrade that keeps your billing period is not charged that day; the price difference for the rest of the current period is credited to your next invoice.
    • Switching between monthly and annual billing, in either direction and whether you move up or down, starts a new billing period on the day you switch: you are charged the new plan's full price that day, less a credit for the unused part of your previous plan. Any credit left over goes toward later invoices; credits are not refunded to your card.
    • During the Starter trial, moving to Pro or Enterprise ends the trial and you are charged the new plan's full price that day. Switching Starter between monthly and annual billing keeps the trial, and you are charged the new price when it ends.

If your card is declined, you stay on your current plan. A plan can't be changed while a payment is overdue or while a cancellation is pending: update your card, or resume the plan, under Manage billing first.

  • Cancelling. Cancel any time from the developer portal under “Manage billing”, or by emailing support@cardapi.dev. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, then your account returns to the Free plan. Cancelling during the Starter trial keeps the trial until it ends, and you are not charged. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not refund the current period. Revoking your API keys does not cancel a subscription.
  • Failed payments. If a payment for your plan fails, at a renewal or when the trial ends, Stripe retries it and your plan stays active for 7 days from the date the payment was due. If it still hasn't been paid by then, the account moves to the Free plan. The paid plan comes back once the payment goes through, unless the subscription has been cancelled by then.
  • Disputes. If you dispute a charge with your bank, the paid plan ends and its subscription is cancelled. Please contact us first; we are glad to sort out a billing problem directly.

Account Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we determine in our sole discretion that you have violated these Terms, engaged in abusive behavior, or pose a risk to the integrity or availability of the Service.

Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice via email to the address associated with your account or via a prominent notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CardAPI and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the three months preceding the claim.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the jurisdiction where the Service operator is domiciled.
